It is significant as a fine example of a picturesque lansard cottage featuring a bellcast mansard roof with paired brackets, polygonal bays, ind a square mansard corner tower providing views of nearby Wedge Pond. Built on specu- ation by local carpenters, it illustrates Winchester's fast growing popularity as a suburb. It meets criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places. Built in an L-plan, it is sheathed with clapboards and enclosed by a bellcast slate mansard roof.

The house is an unusual example of a picturesque mansard cottage, that bears a striking resemblance to Supplementary Plate Thirteen in Bicknell's Village Builder and Supplement (1878). They sold it the following year for $5,500, a $4,700 profit for them. Mary Carr, soon to marry Henry C. Miller of Miller Bros. & Co., Boston, bought the house. The Millers 3old it in 1878 to Thomas Jeeves who added a barn to the property (now 61 Lake Street). In 909, the house was sold to the Mobbs family, various members of which owned it until 1957.
