It retains integrity of location, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association, and meets criterion C of the NRHP on the local level. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the comnunity. This 2½ story, gable roofed, Federal sytle house is one of the largest examples of the popular three quarters, (three bays with off center entrance) form in Wakefield. Like several other houses in town, including 196 Vernon Street across the way, it has a major entrance on the street, and a distinctive minor entrance on the south, or side facade. The door surround on the front facade appears to be altered, but the surround on the very wide south elevation is a fine Federal example, with high entabulature and narrow transom.
A barn, built after 1889, is reminder of the rural aspect of the road until the twentieth century. Since the house does not appear on the map of 1057, it is probable that it was built after that date, making it a quite out of date structure. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the conmunity. D. C. wright, who lived here in 1869, was a farmer and milk dealer. Much of South Reading's agricultural focus was given over to dairy farming until the mid-19th century, as the land was not particularly fertile, and it was quite rocky.
