Organizationwakefield Historical Date Commission March 1985 NATIONAL REGISTER CRITERIA STATEMENT (if applicable) This small Federal house is a well preserved examole of the type as built in wakefield during the last quarter of the 18th century. It retains integrity of location, setting, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association, and meets Criterion C of the NRHP on the local level. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. This is a 1½ story Federal house with a relatively steep gable roof and a central chimney.

The door surround is composed of tall, thin, fluted pilasters supporting an entablature with a simple projecting cornice. The eaves have a boxed cornice which was characteristic of the Federal and Greek Revival house construction in Wakefield as are the corner boards and watertable. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the conmunity. This is one of several houses on the western 'end of Albion Street which was part of Stoneham until annexed by Wakefield in the 1880s. Albion Street was laid out in the center of town around 1830 and was extended to Stoneham by 1857. Portions of it certainly existed before 1830, however. D.
Horace Tilton was a farmer/shoemaker as were many Wakefield residents who supplemented their incomes with shoemaking done in small shops on their property.
