HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. This area of Wakefield was known as Cowdry's Hill after it was settled i in the late 17th c. by William Cowdry. In the 19th c. part of the hill became the farm of James Eustis who farmed it from the 1820s until his death in the 1870s at which time his heirs began dividing it up for suburban development. The area changed hands at least twice before it was finally laid out and built up. In 1906 it was the property of William Greenough. By 1916 H.
Seymour Kelsey owned it and had laid out 67 lots north of Prospect Street along Sheffield, Strathmore, West Morrison Road and the Eustis Avenue Extension. Worla War I no doubt interrupted the progress of this development as only two lots had been sold when the plan was re-filed in 1922.
