SCALE 1:25,000 Recorded by Architectural Preservation Associates Organization Wakefield Historical Commission Date March 1985 NATIONAL REGISTER CRITERIA STATEMENT (if applicable) one of only 2 or 3 Neo-Gothic style buildings in town, this chapel is a well preserved example of the style. It retains integrity of location, setting, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association, and meets Criterion C of the NRHP on the local level. ARCHITECIURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. This is a Neo-Gothic chapel whose design is based on small English country churches. It has a sharply pitched gable roof above its single story. The gable is repeated in an entrance portico. A slate roofed portico extends from the north facade.

There are exterior buttresses on north and south facades. The building is constructed of rough cut, dressed stones with limestone trim at the ogival arched entrance, ogival windows, a watertable and stringcourse. This chapel is one of only two or'three representatives of the style in Wakefield. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE . Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. Lakeside Cemetery was formed in 1846 by a group of Wakefield residents who recognized that the Old Burial Ground was inadeauate to serve the growing population. This site was chosen but was limited to a smaller portion of land on theLake. Land extending to North Avenue was later acquired, a street closed off and several houses removed.
