Crowel Hse, an elabtely prnamented, patternbook based example of the Queen Anne style, retains integrity of location, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association and fulfills Criterion C of the National .Register of Historic Places on the local level. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the connmunity. The Crowell House is a 2 1/2 story cross gable Queen Anne style house distinguished by a broad semicircular porch with elaborate turned posts and jigsaw struts. A full height polygonal bay on a panelled base stands beside the porch. Wall materials include clapboards and wood shingles in a variety of patterns. delicate, however, the form and decorative vocabulary are remarkably similar.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. Several high quality houses were built on the extension of Benton Avenue, called Benton Road, in the early 1890s. C. C. Crowell, the owner of this property in 1895, was a printer.
