Notable features include polygonal bays, at front and side cornice window lintels and sill inset dormers, and a flat-roofed entrance porch with sawn ornament. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how building relates to the development of the conmunity. A lengthy, detailed autobiography by Eugene Le Count, a later - occupant of the house, was acquired for the research file from the current (1984) owner, and describes Le Count's experiences as an enlisted man during the Civil War.

Little is known about the history of this modest single-family residence. After the Civil War, Davis Square, serviced by a horse railway and then by steam rail, grew rapidly as a residential and commercial area. The Day estate, which adjoined Massachusetts Avenue, was subdivided in 186/. The mansard cottage was a popular choice for builders in Davis Square area during the 1860s and 1870s. Eugene LeCount, the house's second owner, served as an enlisted man durina the Civil War and left a detailed autobiography, now in possession of the building's present resident.
