A modestly pretentious Greek Revival-style house noted for its fing Ionic-columed portico, the house fulfills Criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places on the local level.

ARCHITECIURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. The Munroe House is a 2 1/2-story sidehall Greek Revival house of modest pretensions. Notable features include the entrace offset to the left anc corner pilasters and full-length first story windows. flanked by sidelights and a transom 1ight, the wrop-around Ionie is built"ide to an embankment. A garage was built into the lower hillside and terrace added above sometime in the 20th century. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. Robert Munroe, a Boston grain dealer, was an early resident of Prospect Hill.

Durign the 1840s, he and Robert Aldersley Vinal, also a grain dealer, built modest Greek Revival homes on the southern slope of Prospect Hill off Walnut Nearby Munroe Street is named for him.
