Vernon Street retains integrity of location, design, materials, workmanship, and association with the mid-19th century residential development of East Somerville. It is a fine example of a one and one- half story Greek Revival 29 Mt. Vernon Street fulfills Criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places on the local level.

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. The one and one-half story Greek Revival cottage is the only one of its size among other two and one-half story side hall cottages on the other side of Mt. Vernon Street- comprise the templar gable end of the house which is carried by the full width Ionic porch. Full length windows with high profile lintels enn oe tho nouse wncnd f caree inteis and an elaborate entrance framed by decorative panels contribute to the well defined Greek Revival form. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. Platted in 1845, Mt. Vernon Street was developed soon after with Greek Revival cottages several of which survive to articulate the early development.

Boston businessmen and artisans moved to this area for its proximity to Charlestown and to the Boston and Maine Railroad. The dwelling at 29 Mt. Vernon Street is significant for its Somerville, the only section of Somerville retaining a concentration of the well tormulated Greek Revival cottages popular in the 1840s and .s coctasos poputer 100 184 00 1850s.
