The house at 240 West College Street was built in 1861 by the noted local architect Orin The house is a frame Italianate building, with an irregular cross-shaped plan.

The single bay projection dominates the center of the facade. It has a low pitch, gable roof with wide returns and pronounced brackets under the eaves. There is a bullseye window in are still in use in the kitchen and in the upstairs bedrooms. The living room, dining room and hall floors are in oak, which covers the original floors. The Orin Porter House is significant under Criteria B for its association with the noteworthy local architect, Orin Porter, who designed, built and lived in this house for conforms to Property Type FI, Domestic, Civic and Commercial Architecture, 1850/1907, Orin Porter was one of a distinguished family of architects practicing in this area in the before fulfilling his contract with Western Reserve College for the construction of the college chapel, the contract then turned over to Simeon Porter for completion.
