Eddy House possesses integrity of location, design setting, materials. workmanship, feeling and assoclation. It 1s signiticant as Newton's finest example of the English Craftsman style characterized by symmetry and planar stucco surtaces. The exceptional design is br the noted Boston firm of Chapman & Frazer. It is also representative of Newton's early 20th century suburban growth which resuited in intill of estabheneo areas as well as in development oi new subdivisions. It meets criterla A &r Coi the NEHP ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. The George W.
Eddy House is a subtle and enceptionally well detailed erample of the Crattsman style by a major Boston architecturalturm. It1s a 2 and 1/2 story stucco clad house enclosed by a slate hip root which curves elegantly over paired second story windows. Two dormers with similarly curved roots are located on the front slope of the roor. A pent roof on carved brackets extende across the facade and torme a porch over the recessed entry where the root is supported on heavy Dorle columns. The entry and manking windows contain leaded gloss. * two story wing with overhanging second story entende to the right and is contained under the maln reot. A porch that was onguolly open, but is mow closed, extends at an angle to the lett. A matching detached garage stands to the north.
