It is signiticant as Newton's most tully developed Cratteman bungalow. It is aiso representative of Newton's early 20th century suburban growth which resulted in intill of established areas as well as in development of new subdivistons. It meets criteria A 3: C of the NRHP. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of sther buildings within the community.
The Goodbar House 1s the most tully developed ezample of a Craitsman bungalow in the city. While many others are found throughour the city, none approach the scaie of complesty of this one. It is a one story stucco clad structure enclosed by an overhanging gable root with exposed ratter ends. Several cross gables project irom the facade whuch also teatures a pergola porch actosa much oi its width. Long narrow multi-pane windowe are generally arranged in banks of lour or more. Knee-braces are use tos visual support at the cormers of the numerous gables. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. In the twenties Roltins tived in Newton and was responsible for developing subdivisione on Brookdale Road and Walden and Fairtield Streets, however none of his later known work is as interesting as 014 Malnut Street Mothing 19 known about Letagette Goodbar the ortgiai owmer. who remamed there only a tew years. The bouse was subsequendy acquired by the Hallett family, which lived there until 197÷ when it was purchas:wy the present owners Henry and Judy Feldman.
