A supercell thunderstorm became tornadic briefly over North Norwich around 6:00 pm EDT. Trees were snapped off and twisted in all directions along the tornado's path. Several road signs were also blown over and a few homes sustained roof and siding damage.
Lightning struck a house on North Broad Street in the city of Norwich. The lightning started a fire in the attic. The fire smoldered for an hour before it was noticed and the fire departments responded. The fire and smoke damaged the second floor and attic. Water damage was mainly to the first floor. No one was injured due to the lightning.
A thunderstorm moved across the region and became severe. This thunderstorm produced severe winds and knocked over multiple trees in the cities of Preston, New Berlin, Oxford, and Guilford.
A thunderstorm briefly strengthened to severe limits just to the rear of a cell that had produced extensive damage across the county earlier in the evening. A few trees and power lines came down in the town of Norwich around 830 pm EDT.
Trees and wires were blown down by thunderstorm winds. Falling trees produced significant damage to homes and businesses. Kiwanis Park also sustained damaged.
