The Chenango River crested at 10.5 feet which is above Major flood stage. Widespread flooding occurred throughout the village and along State Route 12. This is a fast-responding headwater point on the Chenango River.
A record flood occurred on the Chenango River at Sherburne, NY on September 8, 2011. The river crested at 11.64 feet at 8:15 AM. Widespread major flooding was observed along the reach of the river. This surpassed the previous record of 11.35 feet set during the June 2006 flood.
Several streets in Sherburne were closed due to flooding. Numerous families were evacuated from the trailer park along Handsome Brook at the intersection of Route 12 and County Road 24.
A persistent thunderstorm cell that had produced wind damage earlier in the day across southern Seneca county intensified to severe levels once again over northeastern portions of Chenango county. Shortly after 100 pm, wind damage in the form of numerous downed trees and power lines occurred in Sherburne. Further to the east in the towns of Lathams Corners and New Berlin, many additional large trees were toppled. Route 8 in the town of Lathams Corners was closed for a time due to impassable conditions from felled debris.
The same batch of thunderstorms that produced plenty of severe weather earlier in the day upstream in Steuben, Schuyler, and Tompkins counties reintensified to severe levels over northern Chenango county. A few trees were toppled early in the afternoon in both North Norwich and Sherburne.
Minor flooding occurred on the Chenango River at Sherburne from the late evening hours of March 14th to the evening of the 16th. The river at Sherburne crested at 9.2 feet which is 1.2 feet over the flood stage of 8 feet. Over an inch of rain combining with snowmelt caused the minor flooding.
A thunderstorm moved across the region and became severe. This thunderstorm produced severe winds and knocked over trees and power lines at the intersection of route 12 and 80. This intersection was also flooded.
The Chenanago River at Sherburne exceeded moderate flood stage and crested at 9.85 feet at 2:30 PM on December 18th. At this stage, water covers Blanding Road near State Route 12 and also affects portions of Route 12 in town.
A thunderstorm moved across the region and became severe. This thunderstorm produced severe winds and knocked over a tree which blocked the road in the vicinity of 203 Blanding Road.
