Storms near this place
3 since 1998Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Calhoun in 3 storm reports between 1998 and 2025: 2 tornado, 1 funnel cloud. The reports record 2 injuries. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May 1998 | Tornado (F1) | Calhoun | 2 hurt, $100,000 | At 838 PM CDT, a tornado touched down in the small community of Calhoun. Six homes in Calhoun were damaged, four of which were considered destroyed. One of the six was a mobile home. Two minor injuries occurred when a home was lifted off of its concrete block foundation and destroyed. Wind speed estimates based on the damage suggests velocities were in the upper end of the F1 category, meaning wind in Calhoun were near 110 mph. |
| May 2025 | Tornado (EF1) | Calhoun | - | This tornado developed near Calhoun and moved northeast across Calhoun Road and Roy Monks Road, where trees were uprooted and large tree limbs were snapped. The tornado uprooted numerous trees and snapped numerous tree limbs as it crossed Latham Road, Highway 59, and Waterfield Street. The tornado continued to move northeast and likely dissipated west of County Road 1240. The survey team attempted to access areas east of Highway 59 where the tornado likely tracked, but all available roads into those areas were severely flooded by the Poteau River, thus the path east of Waterfield Street is estimated based on the continuation of a tornadic debris signature and tight velocity couplet from the KSRX WSR-88D. Based on this damage, maximum estimated wind in the tornado was 95 to 105 mph. |
| June 1998 | Funnel Cloud | Calhoun | - | no account filed |
