This is what was collected and kept, not a survey of what lives here - nothing can be concluded from a species being absent.

Storms nearby

4 since 1997

The National Weather Service names Greenland in 4 storm reports between 1997 and 2021: 2 tornado, 1 thunderstorm wind, 1 hail. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.

WhenEvent Place namedHarm What the report says
October 2021Tornado (EF0)Greenland$100,000The tornado appears to have touched down near Vollmar Road. Numerous trees were knocked down in a field between Vollmar Road and Albright Mill Road and additional hardwood trees and limbs were blown down at two residences along Albright Mill Road. The roof of one of the residences also sustained damage, where part of the roof was lifted off and blown across the road. A back porch was also destroyed. Damage in this area was estimated be near 85 mph, which corresponds to a high end EF0 tornado.||Additional tree damage occurred to the east of Albright Mill Road, primarily on Egypt Pike and Cattail Road. The tornado is believed to have ended on or just east of Cattail Road as no additional damage was observed east of Cattail Road.
May 1997Tornado (F1)Greenland$25,000A second tornado formed from a mini-supercell which tracked across much of northern Ross county. Much of the county is open fields so very little structural damage occurred. However, a barn roof was ripped off and power lines were downed near Kingston.
June 2009Thunderstorm WindGreenland$2,000Trees and power lines were blown down on Westfall Road. A car port was also blown onto a vehicle.
