Storms near this place
6 since 2006Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Rantowles in 6 storm reports between 2006 and 2024: 4 thunderstorm wind, 1 hail, 1 tornado. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| July 2006 | Thunderstorm Wind | Rantowles | $2,000 | Trees down in the Poplar Grove subdivision. |
| September 2024 | Tornado (EF0) | Rantowles | - | A National Weather Service storm survey team confirmed that a brief EF-0 tornado with estimated peak winds of 70 mph and associated with an outer rain band of Helene, touched down near Savannah Highway near Davison Road where it caused two power poles to lean. The tornado then continued northwest to Carriage House Way where a tree was uprooted and a few limbs were noted down. The tree that was uprooted appeared to have a shallow root system and therefore the wind speed was lowered to a low end EF-0. A few smaller tree branches were also noted just south of Bulow Landing Road before the tornado lifted. |
| April 2022 | Thunderstorm Wind | Rantowles | - | A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team confirmed strong straight-line winds associated with a thunderstorm microburst producing an estimated maximum wind speed of 90 to 95 mph along Chisholm Road on Johns Island, South Carolina. Strong straight-line winds associated with a line of thunderstorms passed across the Wadmalaw River and New Cut area, entering western portions of Johns Island along the 5000 block of Chisholm Road, then continued east with a swath approximately 650 yards wide along a path approximately 800 yards long. During the event, approximately 50 full size pine trees were downed, 25 of them being uprooted, along with a few full size oak trees uprooted and several large limbs damaged. The greatest damage to trees occurred across a wooded area north of the intersection of Chisolm Road and Ravens Bluff Road on a 22 acre property where minor damage also occurred to an open shed structure near a home. |
| July 2019 | Thunderstorm Wind | Rantowles | - | South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a tree down on Davison Road just north of Highway 17. |
| August 2015 | Thunderstorm Wind | Rantowles | - | The media reported a tree down along Marshwood Drive in the Stono Ferry Area. |
