June 2014FloodIrene$50,000Persistent moderate to heavy rain caused flooding of fields and other lowlands, including several roads, homes, and businesses. This flooding lasted for almost two days, and was aggravated locally by additional storms during that time. Some roads were damaged or washed out.
May 2008Thunderstorm WindIrene$10,000Thunderstorm winds blew over three empty grain bins.
June 2024Flash FloodIrene-Rainfall from 3 to 5 inches during the early evening resulted in flash flooding that inundated two homes with up to 3 feet of water and covered many rural roads in the northern portion of the county. For a more comprehensive description of flood damage, please see other entries for areal and river flooding for Clay County.
August 2015Thunderstorm WindIrene-Thunderstorm winds caused tree damage, including numerous branches blown down.
March 2011FloodIrene-Melting of a heavy winter snow cover caused light to moderate flooding of the Vermillion River in the northern part of the county. Some small streams in the county were also flooded, as well as farmland and lowland across the county. A few roads were closed by the flooding, and water was running over other roads. The flooding onset was rapid for a snow melt flood due to high water and groundwater levels from record precipitation in the year 2010. The river flooding ended before the end of the month, but some lowland flooding continued.
April 2011FloodIrene-Flooding of lowlands and lakes continued into most of April. Flooding of the Vermillion River also abated slowly. There was a minor crest of the Vermillion River near Wakonda, 1.8 feet above flood stage, on April 20th. Water was generally low to recede. High water and groundwater levels from record precipitation in the year 2010 contributed to the slow nature of abatement of the flooding.
