May 2014Tornado (EF1)Alice$1,600,000An EF1 tornado touched down on the southeast side of the city of Alice just south of the intersection of Highway 359 and Stadium Road. The tornado traveled 2.3 miles and lifted just north of the intersection of County Road 1352 and County Road 382. This tornado produced shingle damage to the roof tops of several homes, lifted the roof deck off of several homes, and snapped a dozen power poles at their mid-point. The tornado destroyed a metal building and a portable building, broke overhead doors, blew out the siding of several metal buildings, and downed numerous trees.

April 2014Thunderstorm WindOrange Grove$750,000NWS storm survey concluded that damaging straight line winds, estimated at 65 to 70 mph, impacted the town of Orange Grove. The damage path was 4.5 miles long and 3.2 miles wide. Approximately 500-600 homes suffered minor to moderate damage with a few broken windows, damaged shingles or siding. A few homes suffered major damage with all west facing windows broken, and exterior siding destroyed by wind blown hail. Throughout the impacted areas, large tree branches and fence posts were snapped. Numerous trampolines were blown and destroyed. There were approximately a dozen unanchored outdoor storage sheds or carports that were destroyed by the wind. One large unanchored outdoor metal building was blown into the neighboring home with debris scattered 300 yards downstream. Another large metal building was blown into an adjacent vehicle with debris scattered 400 yards down wind. There were reports of several horses injured by wind blown debris and large hail.

The tornado traveled south and briefly produced EF1 damage near Southeast 5th Street and Southern Bernice Street. Partial roof damage was observed to a few homes, numerous large tree limbs were snapped, and one tree was completely uprooted. The tornado continues south of the Premont city limits and regained EF1 status near the intersection of Highway 281 and East County Road 401. Numerous power poles were snapped at their mid-point and several poles were leaning in a southerly direction.

May 2012Thunderstorm WindOrange Grove$250,000A NWS survey concluded that a downburst of straight-line winds occurred over the southern portion of the city of Orange Grove near the intersection of Highway 359 and County Road 374. The winds were estimated to be up to 80 mph. The damage path was 1 mile long and a half of a mile wide. Several large power poles were snapped in half. The roof was peeled off of two mobile homes. The roof was damaged on a two story home with a large porch overhang. There were numerous large trees and branches down across the area also.

April 2010Flash FloodOrange Grove$100,000Torrential rainfall of 4-8 inches fell led to widespread flash flooding in northern and northwest Jim Wells county. In particular, A flood wave developed on the Agua Dulce Creek, west of Orange Grove, and traveled downstream through Jim Wells County and into Nueces county. Several County Roads became impassable along the creek. One vehicle was swept into the creek near CR 239 and CR 308, with all three passengers rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter. Another resident who was trapped in their home was rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter. The flood wave destroyed one mobile home in Jim Wells county. In addition flooding of roadways occurred in Orange Grove, and several homes were reported to have water in them. FM 624 was closed in Orange Grove due to 1 foot of flowing water over the road. Also water was reported over CR 307, northwest of Orange Grove, making it impassable.||WATER COVERING COUNTY ROAD 307 NORTHWEST OF ORANGE GROVE. THE ROAD IS BECOMING IMPASSIBLE.
July 2005Tornado (F1)Alice$100,000A NWS storm survey concluded a tornado, in the outer rainbands of Hurricane Emily, formed approximately 8 miles north of Alice, near the intersection of CR-120 and CR-124 in the community of Tecolote. The tornado tracked northwest for 0.9 miles producing F1 damage. Several homes were damaged along this path and one mobile home was completely destroyed. Many trees were snapped and uprooted. The tornado continued northwest, skipping across open rural country for another 9 miles, producing F0 damage to trees and vegetation, before moving into Duval County.
May 2007Thunderstorm WindPalito Blanco$75,000NWS storm survey concluded damage in and around Palito Blanco was the result of straight-line winds estimated at 60-70 mph. The damage path was approximately 2 miles wide and 4 miles long, beginning 2 miles northwest of Palito Blanco and ending roughly 2 miles southeast of Palito Blanco. The damage consisted primarily of large broken tree limbs, and a few uprooted trees. Several traffic sign poles made of fiberglass were broken off at their bases. Some sheet metal damage to the roof of an open barn was observed. The roof was partially blown off of one mobile home in Palito Blanco. Crops were blown down flat in a few fields. All debris throughout the damage swath was lying in the southeast direction.
May 2021Thunderstorm WindAlice$50,000Numerous broken tree branches were observed around Alice with most damage concentrated along Schley and Rankin Avenues. There were at least four observed downed power lines within this neighborhood as well as damage to a car port and loss of roofing materials at a local bingo hall. Farther east of this location, a 53 MPH wind gust was reported at the Alice airport at 00:54 AM LST.
August 2020Thunderstorm WindPalito Blanco$50,000Scattered thunderstorms moving through Jim Wells County produced wind damage near the community of Palito Blanco in the late afternoon. Winds tore a sheet metal roof off of a shed, blew down an outdoor patio, and peeled back part of a roof.

July 2010FloodSpringfield$50,000Between 5 and 8 inches of rain from Hurricane Alex left many roads and creeks flooded for a few days after the event. Hardest hit was central Jim Wells County, near Ben Bolt where most city streets where flooded from both poor drainage and over flowing creeks, including Tranquaitas, San Gertrudis, and San Andreas Creeks. Water made it up to and into some homes in Ben Bolt.
May 2009Tornado (EF1)Ben Bolt$50,000NWS Storm Survey revealed an EF-1 tornado touched down near the community of Green Acres, at the intersection of CR 480 and CR 481. The tornado was 50 yards wide and traveled roughly two tenths of a mile before lifting up. One mobile home trailer was completely destoyed while a roof was removed from another. Numerous large tree branches were broken along along the path. A couple of trees were uprooted and one tree trunk was completely snapped. Winds were estimated at 105 mph.
May 1994HailOrange Grove$50,000The tornado touched down briefly near Orange Grove with power lines down. It tore the roof off a residence and damaged two others. The owners of the house were at home when the damage occurred and reported hearing a sound like a train" just before the tornado struck. They were not injured. Golf ball- to baseball-sized hail in Orange Grove at the same time.
October 2005Thunderstorm WindPremont$40,000An NWS storm survey observed evidence of straight line wind damage in extreme southwest Jim Wells county, in and near Premont. A large empty grain silo was destroyed near CR 428 and CR 716 and lying in a southeast direction across the roadway. Power poles were knocked down and large limbs snapped off trees along CR 716 just west of Premont. Five homes along CR 716 were also observed to have minor window and roof damage. On garage was completly destoyed, with the debris blown downwind to the southeast. Large limbs of trees were also snapped in Premont. Winds were estimated between 70 and 90 mph.

September 2011Thunderstorm WindBen Bolt$30,000A NWS survey concluded that a microburst occurred 2 miles northeast of Ben Bolt on County Road 484. Maximum winds were estimated around 70 mph. A large roof covering was blown off a mobile home with the debris distributed downwind in a divergent pattern about 100 yards. The tornado was approximately 100 yards wide and on the ground for nearly 2 miles. The maximum winds were estimated to be at 90 MPH. A house was damaged and lost part of its roof. An outdoor storage shed was destroyed and many mesquite trees lost large limbs or were snapped at their base.
