September 2012Tornado (EF0)Sweet Home$5,000A small EF-0 tornado was seen on video from a school campus in Sweet Home. The survey concluded that the small tornado began just down the road from the school on FM 531 and then traveled northwest hitting the school playground area at approximately 5:02 PM. The video showed the small tornado moving through the playground damaging the playground and the school gymnasium door. The tornado then moved northwest behind the school and into an open field behind a nearby church. The tornado crossed County Road 378 and produced some minor tree damage before dissipating near FM 318. Special thanks go out to Sweet Home Independent School District and KSAT-12 TV in San Antonio for providing information and video of this tornado event.
April 2009Heavy RainSweet Home-A CoCoRaHS observer reported 4.27 inches of rain in five hours north of Yoakum. There was also some minor flooding.
March 2007Flash FloodSweet Home-Between 3 and 5 inches of rain fell in the afternoon and evening over northwestern Lavaca County. Numerous rural roads were closed due to flooding, including FM530.
May 2007Flash FloodSweet Home-Scattered showers and thunderstorms produced general 1 to 3 inch rain amounts in western Lavaca County with up to 6 inches near Hallettsville. FM111, FM530, and FM1447 were closed due to flash flooding. Many roads in Hallettsville were reported to be under water with several vehicles washed off the roads.
March 2006Flash FloodSweet Home-Thunderstorms formed along a slow-moving cold front in the mid afternoon as it crossed Lavaca County. The storms produced between 1 and 2 inches per hour, with accumulations of up to 4 inches southeast of Sweet Home near where FM531 intersects US77. The Sheriff's Department reported that FM531 was closed due to flash flooding in the area of US77 through the early evening.
July 2006Flash FloodSweet Home-Afternoon thunderstorms produced a general 1 to 2 inch rainfall over western Lavaca County. Highest totals were near 4 inches northeast of Hallettsville. Flash flooding closed FM531 and FM532 through the late afternoon.
