Population over time
2 figuresKearns grew from 35,731 to 36,723 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

6 since 1993Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Kearns in 6 storm reports between 1993 and 2011: 4 thunderstorm wind, 1 hail, 1 flash flood. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| July 2011 | Flash Flood | Kearns | $350,000 | A heavy rainstorm produced flash flooding across parts of the Salt Lake Valley, and the hardest hit areas were Kearns, Taylorsville, and Murray. In Kearns, water was 9 to 12 inches deep across several roads, making them impassable. In Taylorsville, at least a half dozen homes had flooded basements near the intersection of 5400 South and 3200 West. Water caused a sinkhole to form in the roadway around 6200 South and 2700 West, buckling and collapsing the street. In Murray, approximately 25 homes were flooded, with some basements filling with 4 to 6 feet of water. |
| May 1993 | Thunderstorm Wind | Kearns | $500 | no account filed |
| July 1994 | Thunderstorm Wind | Kearns | - | Microburst winds blew from the west and northwest along the Wasatch front producing isolated damage reports. The most significant damage occurred in the Woods Cross area. With wind gusts estimated at 80 mph, gravel and small debris became airborne and was driven into a few new cars, damaging the paint and breaking out windows. Auto damage was estimated at $20,000. An adjacent building lost a few shingles. Lightning started at least 12 range fires in Box Elder and Tooele Counties. The northwest microburst winds blew choking smoke into the Salt Lake and Tooele valleys. |
| May 1993 | Thunderstorm Wind | Kearns | - | The above mentioned thunderstorm also produced frequent lightning and high winds. Lightning struck a house, and caused only minor damage. The spotter in Kearns reported only one gust to 52 knots, but had two gusts to 47 knots shortly thereafter. |
