Ephrata, the town this property stands in, in 10 storm reports between 1997 and 2018: 2 heavy rain, 2 flash flood, 2 thunderstorm wind, 2 lightning.
No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
A direct hit by lightning set a two-story home on Johnson Road ablaze, completely destroying the home and its contents. The family living in the home escaped without injury.
Flooding from heavy rain producing thunderstorms occurred in Ephrata during the late evening of May 17th. Basin Street, the main road through the downtown business district was flooded with 4 to 8 inches of water with first floor damage to multiple businesses in the downtown area. A portion of the ceiling in the Department of Corrections building collapsed due to standing water on the roof.
