Named in the 1903 county history

The history of Hancock County was published 2 years after the first of these atlases, and it names this establishment.

The second frame building was erected by William Taylor, who occupied it as a dwelling, hotel and dry goods store. This building stood on the lot adjoining the Davis Opera House, on the south. Many years ago it was removed to the west end of Sandusky Street, where it was burned down. It was about twenty-five feet square and a story and a half high. As Mr. Squire Carlin built the first frame building, so he also built the first brick building in the town, on the lot aforementioned. This too he used as a dwelling and dry goods store.
