Named in the 1885 county history

The history of Portage County was published 13 years before the first of these atlases, and it names this establishment.

As music supervisor, Mrs, Pauline Young tained her usual excellent results. "The high spots of the ycar, from the musical point of view, are presented briefly. Competing with the other girl's glee clubs of Portage County, at Randolph Fair, the G. H. 8. Girl's Glee club won a tle for first honors, It is worthy of note that the Nelson girls, who shared the honor with G. H. 8. were also trained by Mrs, Young. The girls, with one or two other glee clubs, sang at Ravenna for the annual gathering of board members and executives, The H. S. orchestra continued its good work, playing for numerous entertainments, but even better than that has been the development of an excellent 7th and Sth grade orchestra.
