No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
Emergency management reported lots of hail the size of dimes and nickels with a few quarter sized hail stones mixed in. Time slightly adjusted to account for a delay in the report from when the hail actually fell.
The USGS Gages near Riverton on both the West and East Nishnabotna Rivers showed minor flooding with two crests. The first, and more minor of the two crests, came on the 12th and was just 0.3 above food stage on the East Nishnabotna and 0.9 above on the West Nishnabotna. The second higher crests came on the 15th into the 16th and was 0.47 above on the East, and 2.92 feet above on the West. Both crests caused minor low land flooding along the river.
Thunderstorm wind gusts estimated at around 70 mph caused extensive tree and property damage in the Sidney area. The county Chief Deputy reported that there was a tree down on about every block. Pieces of a roof of an auto parts store blew off and damaged several vehicles in the area and a grocery store lost several windows. A barn collapsed from the winds as well. Power poles were snapped and the power was lost across a large part of the area.
A bookend vortex spun up another brief tornado in between Sidney and Randolph. The tornado was only on the ground a minute or two and did no apparent damage. Emergency management spotted this tornado from his office in Sidney and stated that there possibly could have been 2 or 3 funnels or tornadoes from this particular supercell at this time.
