Description of the property

Statement of significance

to Ohio from Canonsburg, Pa, about 1826 and settled in Columbiana County. Before the Civil War began, the sons of the McCook brothers fought in the Civil War, Daniel and his 8 living sons and the 5 sons of John offered of them as officers. The "tribe of Dan" included 3 major generals, 2 the father, who died from wounds received in the Battle of Buffington Island, in Ohio, with John Morgan's infamous raiders. George, son of Dan, was Attorney General of Ohio and Democratic candidate for Governor in 1871, Edwin was acting Governor of the Dakota Territory, University. On John's side, Edward was twice Governor of the Colorado Territory, Anson was a congressman from New York, Henry won fame through a number of books of theology and natural history, and John James was Carroll County Historical Society.
