“The Daniel McCook House is a historic antebellum house in Carrollton, Ohio, that was home to several of the "Fighting McCooks" who rose to fame during the American Civil War. The patriarch, Daniel McCook Sr., was a major in the Union Army as well as a paymaster, and his sons rose to military prominence during the war.”

Lightning injured 6 people at a soccer game as they sat in lawn chairs. Some were holding umbrellas. Lightning struck the umbrella of a 37-year old man. He was critically injured. Three other adults and 2 children were slightly injured.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has confirmed an EF1 tornado in the city of Carrollton on Saturday afternoon May 25th.|||The tornado touched down in a wooded area off of Crest |Street then lifted briefly across Canton Road NW before tearing the top of a |large hardwood tree behind the McDonald's. The worst of the damage |was an overturned single wide mobile home. There were shingles off |several other mobile homes within the mobile home park. A metal shed |was also destroyed. Intermittent touchdowns continued causing minor |damage and shingles off the roofs of a few homes along N Lisbon |Street. Numerous hardwood trees behind the aforementioned street |were snapped mid way up in a ravine.

Description of the property
There is a single chimney at either end of the structure, and a Classical single large room (approx. 20' by 25') on either side of a hall the house was used as a shop, but it is not a recent change. the office, has been restored and several rooms have been supplied with of memorabilia of the McCook family and of the Civil War. CONDITION Deteriorated Excellent REGISTER NATIONAL Ruins Fair period furnishings.Part of the house is now devoted to the display The house is an ell-shaped 2-story structure built of brick and having Otherwise, the pleasant house displays little in the way of detailing. attractive side- and fan-lights is centered in the 5-part front facade.

Statement of significance
to Ohio from Canonsburg, Pa, about 1826 and settled in Columbiana County. Before the Civil War began, the sons of the McCook brothers fought in the Civil War, Daniel and his 8 living sons and the 5 sons of John offered of them as officers. The "tribe of Dan" included 3 major generals, 2 the father, who died from wounds received in the Battle of Buffington Island, in Ohio, with John Morgan's infamous raiders. George, son of Dan, was Attorney General of Ohio and Democratic candidate for Governor in 1871, Edwin was acting Governor of the Dakota Territory, University.
On John's side, Edward was twice Governor of the Colorado Territory, Anson was a congressman from New York, Henry won fame through a number of books of theology and natural history, and John James was Carroll County Historical Society. A number of the Fighting McCooks' had eminent careers as civilians also.
