it became the home, through marriage into the family, of the poet, journalist & Ohio statesman Coates Kinney, whose verse was characteristic of his era & sisters, who received their houses from their father on the occasion of their Xenia banker, who held city & county office & was at the time of his death a representative to the Ohio legislature (1891-1893). In 1881 he built the Born in N.Y. state, Kinney came to Ohio in 1840 where he studied & practiced law, & at various times owned &/or edited several Xenia, Springfield, Cincin- nati & Columbus newspapers & The Genius of the West, a Cincinnati literary served in the ohio senate, where he became the leading Republican speaker & authored the temperance amendment to the constitution, adopted in 1882.
