Description of the property

The Zanesville YWCA is basically a U-shaped building, facing east, built south wall, off the cafeteria area. The south arm of the "u" does not extend inside of the "U" at the roof level are gable dormers with 3-panel shuttered hall, meeting rooms, a cafeteria and kitchen area on the first floor, and smaller - meeting rooms, sleeping rooms, and offices on thr second. Several shade trees grace the terraced yard in front of the YWCA. These trees were planted in May, 1927 by members of the YWCAs Garden Club, after having been donated by J.L. Compton, a "landscape gardener." All foliage, including shrubbery, ground plantings, and flowers, combine to provide a welcome green area in this busy commercial district.
