Description of the property

Statement of significance

(in one paragraph) The Alameda Apartments derive their significance from architecture, as an early 20th-century residential/commercial mixed-use complex. The early years of the century in Zanesville saw an impressive industrial boom, due primarily to the housing needs rose, while, obviously, land in the downtown area suitable for housing remained static. As a result, the pre-war years saw the construction of a series of stages around 1910, was one of the finest of these endeavors. Most of the early profile includes curvilinear gable ends (said to have been designed in the form of whisky bottles), a lancet-arched doorway leading to the apartments on the second floor of the Seventh Street section, dormers with trefoil-type fascia, and the handsome gable-roofed oriels along the Elberon Avenue elevation.

Further, the addition built along the Elberon Avenue side features a name "Alameda" inset into of the building to the local scene. It is not known, but it is likely that the structure was designed by Harry C.
