Flown by the U.S. Geological Survey
between 1937 and 1989, the Aerial Photo Single Frames collection is
the definitive mid-century view of the land: fields, roads and rivers
as the camera saw them. The Survey holds 1,086 frames inside the
rectangle that bounds this county; the 48 frames below were taken over
the county itself, chosen across the decades of flights (at most four
a year from that rectangle), so one flight cannot crowd out the rest.

The most serious of them, by death, then
injury, then recorded damage. The accounts are quoted exactly as the
forecast office filed them.
At least 59 structures and 18 vehicles were damaged or destroyed at Pine Lake Campground due to downed trees from thunderstorm winds. An estimated 200 trees fell at the campground and 8 people were injured due to being struck by downed trees and limbs. Every electrical wire at the 66 acre campground was downed. The damage was estimated to be more than $1 million.
On the early afternoon of July 9, lightning struck a a tree at the Caroga Lake Campsite, in the town of Caroga Lake, Fulton County. The lightning took the bark off and traveling up through the roots as well as the surrounding blacktop. The current also ran through a child and his grandfather. The two individuals were thrown into the air and then fell to the ground. They were stunned and briefly paralyzed. Both vicitims were burned and admitted to the Westchester Medical Center in fair condition.
On January 8 and 9, mild weather along with significant rain and snowmelt resulted in small stream flooding across Fulton County. There were many road closures throughout the county due to ponding of water and small stream flooding. The Cayadutta Creek at Johnstown and Gloversville, flooded many streets.
A lightning strike was reported to have caused a fire to a home at 14 Temple Street in Gloversville. The home's roof sustained heavy damage as a result of the fire. Most of the top section of the house was also destroyed, although firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading to other houses.
A NWS survey team found evidence of an F0 tornado at property located on Turnpike Road in the town of Ephratah. The F0 tornado blew the roof off a house just after an eyewitness saw a funnel cloud heading toward the home.
Heavy rainfall from several clusters of thunderstorms led to minor flooding in portions of Gloversville. Several roads were closed, including Second Avenue, outside of the Boulevard Elementary School, due to approximately 2 feet of standing water.||In addition, the Boulevard Elementary School sustained water damage as high water levels led to water infiltration through temporary windows, which were not completely sealed. This allowed approximately 1 foot of water to enter the basement, damaging water heaters and other stored items such as textbooks.
Thunderstorm winds downed numerous trees along Piseco Rd., 4 miles north of Stratford during the evening of September 6th. One of the trees fell on the roof of a house causing some damage to the roof.
The Survey's mineral resources record
