Storms near this place
3 since 2020Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Oak Hill in 3 storm reports between 2020 and 2026: 2 tornado, 1 thunderstorm wind. The reports record 1 injury. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| March 2026 | Tornado (EF2) | Oak Hill | 1 hurt, $500,000 | A line of severe thunderstorms moved into McCurtain County, Oklahoma, late in the evening on March 10th. Circulations were embedded within this line of thunderstorms, with one of which producing an EF2 tornado with estimated maximum winds near 118 mph that began on Old Golden Highway, resulting in snapped trees and the loss of shingles to a local residence. The tornado then continued east, reaching Thomas Road near the intersection of Old Golden Highway where more trees were snapped and uprooted and a barn/shed experienced damage to the roof. The tornado then began to pick up in intensity as it moved across Oak Hill Road where numerous trees were snapped and uprooted. As the tornado then continued northeast towards Rhoden Road, it caused significant damage to a family residence, resulting in the collapse of most exterior walls and an injury to the occupant who had to be airlifted to the hospital. Trees were then uprooted and fell onto this residence, causing additional damage. Next door to this home, significant damage was found to other structures as well as additional tree damage. Just before reaching Rhoden Road, another residence was damaged, where areas of the roof were uplifted, multiple trees were snapped and uprooted, and the neighboring barn experienced significant roof damage. The tornado then moved north/northeast of the road, pushing a small outbuilding off of its foundation and snapping and uprooting more trees before lifting as it crossed Highway 3. |
| March 2023 | Tornado (EF1) | Oak Hill | $10,000 | An EF1 tornado embedded within a quasi-linear convective system, or squall line, began west of Broken Bow along Poppy Road and proceeded to advance nearly 5 miles northwest and then north of the city before lifting as it crossed Highway 259. Most the damage was in the form of uprooted trees lying to the north or northeast, but some trees were lying to the northwest. This fact, in combination with signs of convergence in the damage pattern, was enough to give confidence in categorizing this as a tornado. The highest winds estimated in the 90 to 100 mph range, and the maximum width of nearly 400 yards, was in the vicinity of where the tornado crossed Highway 3. A few structures were damaged in this tornado, but mainly due to falling trees. |
| May 2020 | Thunderstorm Wind | Oak Hill | - | Trees were blown down in the Lukfata community northwest of Broken Bow, as well as in the Golden community. |
