July 1999Thunderstorm WindChippewa On The Lake$1,100,000A series of macrobursts began on the west side of Chippewa Lake and moved east to Wadsworth resulting in a nearly continuous line of damage. Two homes were destroyed, 16 others suffered major damage and 40 homes suffered minor damage. Of the two homes that were destroyed, one was cut in half by a falling tree and the other was blown off its foundation. Another 200 homes received minimal damage from such things as broken windows and damaged rain gutters. Baseball and softball dugouts at a local ball field were also destroyed. Hundreds of trees were reported down in the southeastern portion of the county. Approximately 10 vehicles were damaged or destroyed by falling trees and at least 30 houses were struck by falling trees. A semi truck was blown over on Interstate 76 approximately 5 miles west of Wadsworth. Siding on a house in Lafayette Township was torn off. Dozens of trees were downed in Wadsworth with 20 down at one house alone. A boat was damaged by a fallen tree and a large restaurant sign was also blown down. Several homes in the Wadsworth area suffered roof damage from fallen trees and winds there were estimated at 60 to 80 mph.
