“Tanglewood is a historic house on the western side of Chillicothe, Ohio, United States. Built in 1826, it features a combination of the Greek Revival and Italianate styles of architecture, and it is one of the best preserved examples of the rare "monitor" style of residential design.”

When this property was proposed for the
National Register, someone wrote the case for it: what the building is,

Description of the property
Tanglewood is a 2 and 1/2 story square brick building of common bond constructed on a cut stone foundation. Built into the side of a hill, the facade is 2 1/2 stories high and the rear only 1 1/2. throughout the house with plain stone sills and lintels and exterior shutters. The There are three entrances, all on the second story and all feature sidelights and paneled enclosure. has been added to the northern elevation. It has multi-paned windows, a small central CONDITION DETERIORATED XALTERED FAIR the first and second story.
EXCELLENT the property.The projecting wooden cornice is supported by ornate brackets.The cornice treatment is carried out with the monitor as well.The fenestration is uniform CHECK ONE - UNALTERED - MOVEDDATE northern side of the roof and the fourth is in the southern edge.A frame sun porch - UNEXPOSED -GOOD balustrade. A similar entrance is on the southern elevation. Statement of significance
'style of house, a form that was not widely utilized in Ohio during the 19th century. Talbot Hamlin, the preeminent historian of the Greek Revival in America, identified them as brick houses "of the greatest dignity" that featured low-pitched roofs, austere Revival style. The Italianate details, which appear to be original, are harbingers of Construction of the house was begun for a Roman Catholic clergyman, John McClean, but the 19th century it was owned by the Safford family.
