Statement of significance
Applicable National Register Criteria Areas of Significance (enter categories from instructions) Period of Significance 8, 1891. Monroe County, organized in 1813 and named for the former U.S. President, was settled nearly half of the Swiss immigrants with a total of 252 listed in the 1850 census records. The Salem Church congregation was formed in August, 1853. The first church, located to the appointed a building committee from members of the church, consisting of three men: Johan farm family, the Bruni Brothers, also members of the church. congregations including Zion, Jakob, Virginia, and Methodist, as well as many contributions X See continuation sheet Architecture Architect/Builder Bruni Brothers country.
Significant Person Significant Dates $1,450.80 being received.Contributors included 66 members of the Salem Church who donated an additional collection taken for the Dedication Ceremony for the new church which brought hilly terrain and natural scenery reminiscent of Switzerland were thought to be the main immigrants had settled primarily in two townships of Monroe County from Switzerland.The Cultural Affiliation Certifying official has considered the significance of this property in relation to other properties: Necessary funds to build the new church were collected by subscription, with a total of J.J.
Bodmer, the minister for the congregation during the construction of the new church, (Wilhelm,1982)Most of the Swiss-German immigrants purchased farm land in their new factor that attracted the large number of Swiss,"....thoroughly educated men and women.
