Selected from the Digital Public Library of America's 4 image records catalogued for this county. Every one shown here carries a public-domain status or a licence that permits reuse on a site that carries advertising; non-commercial, share-alike and restricted images are excluded. The selection is spread across the county's towns (at most eight per town), so no single institution's bulk upload crowds out the rest. Flown by the U.S. Geological Survey between 1937 and 1989, the Aerial Photo Single Frames collection is the definitive mid-century view of the land: fields, roads and rivers as the camera saw them. The Survey holds 1,123 frames inside the rectangle that bounds this county; the 43 frames below were taken over the county itself, chosen across the decades of flights (at most four a year from that rectangle), so one flight cannot crowd out the rest. The full set is free to browse and download at EarthExplorer under the dataset Aerial Photo Single Frames.

The first tornado was weak but still caused nuisance type damage - blowing out underpinning from mobile homes, blowing over sheds, etc. The second tornado which developed after the storm strengthened was a strong FO tornado and caused a fair amount of damage from Gaffney to Blacksburg. Inflow into the tornado blew down a storage building and knocked down some trees in the city of Gaffney. Along Interstate 85 the tornado's winds blew down some billboards, trees and power lines. Several people saw the tornado funnel. There were a number of reports of pea to marble-size hail with the storm. The supercell and its severe weather moved into North Carolina.
July 2005Thunderstorm WindBlacksburg$55,000Numerous trees down, with at least one on a home. Also, the roof of the high school gym was damaged by the wind, causing part of the roof to collapse.
January 2024Flash FloodGrassy Pond$50,000Multiple sources reported flash flooding developed across mainly northern Cherokee County after 3 to 5 inches of rain fell across the area in around 12 hours. Numerous roads were inundated due to stream flooding or poor drainage. Impacted streams included the Broad River near Blacksburg, which exceeded minor flood stage, indicating inundation of Little Hope Rd and River Rd. Emergency manager reported that more than two dozen roads were damaged or inundated throughout the county, including Mill Gin Rd in the northwest part of the county, which was flooded by Cherokee Creek. A number of water rescues occurred including a driver from a vehicle that was being swept away, and about 20 people who were evacuated from an apartment complex west of Blackburg.

February 2020Flash FloodGrassy Pond$50,000Stream gauges and EM reported flash flooding developed across Cherokee County after 4 to 6 inches of rain fell throughout the area in 24 hours, with much of that falling during the morning into the afternoon of the 6th. A stream gauge on the Broad River near Blacksburg indicated rapid rise of the stream, and rare flash flooding along a main stem river. Multiple roads were inundated, including Wolf Den Ln, Little Hope Rd, and River Rd. Multiple smaller streams also overflowed their banks and washed out roads, including Cherokee Creek Rd, Vermont Dr, and Lisas Ln, where two families were briefly trapped.
February 2020FloodGrassy Pond$50,000Although heavy rainfall tapered off across Cherokee County throughout the afternoon, high water conditions persisted due to runoff. This included moderate, record flooding along the Broad River. Multiple low-lying roads were inundated, including Little Hope Rd and River Rd, as was the Cherokee Ford Rec Area. The stream gauge at Blacksburg indicated the river reached its highest level since at least 1997.
July 2012Thunderstorm WindThicketty$50,000Numerous trees and power lines were blown down across the area. One tree fell on a mobile home on Corinth Rd, briefly trapping an occupant. At least 3 homes had trees on them with occupants trapped and a mobile home was shifted off its foundation along Pondfield. In addition, the porch and underpinnings of a mobile home were damaged and part of a tin roof peeled off a barn on Childers Rd.

May 1993Thunderstorm WindGaffney$50,000Several thunderstorms became severe during the afternoon. A couple of storms became quite strong producing golf ball-size hail at Greenwood and near Clinton. This was the second major hail event of the season for both of these communities, although these storms did not affect as large an area as the earlier storms. As the storms moved east they produced more gusty winds than hail. The tin was torn off some barns near Reidville along with downed trees and in Cherokee County a number of trees were downed causing scattered power outages. The hail there, although plentiful, had decreased to less than severe size.
