Architect: None. 3- Original and subsequent owners: United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing; Shaker Community, Inc. h. Builder, suppliers, etc.: The "builder is not definitely known. An assumption, although not documented, was that it was Elder William Dealing who supervised the construc- tion as he did five years earlier with the brick dwelling. 5. Original plans, construction, etc.: No record. 6. Alterations and additions: None. According to a watercolor chart of the Church Family at Hancock in now owned by Morris Austin of Clinton, Conn., formerly a member of the Hancock Church Family, there was a tannery in approximately the same location as the tannery.
Perhaps a larger building was needed and erected near the same site, or the earlier one enlarged. The latter supposition, however, does not account for the date stone in "the foundation of the present building Traces of color under the outside paint indicate that white was not the original color. A-broom shop stood originally between the early tannery and the dairy. B. Historical Events and Persons Connected with the Structure: None.
