Eagle Street, also known as the Remington Block, is part of the Eagle Street/Monument Square District listed with the National Register, and is believed to be one of the first buildings constructed on Eagle Street. Description: The Greek Revival style, two and one-half story structure with twenty-five feet frontage faces east on Eagle Street. The gable roof extends into the building to the south and over the roof of the building to the north. The building was considerably altered in when three double hung windows at the second story level were removed and the windows and the wood clapboard siding was covered by aluminum siding. The storefront was also remodeled in and is composed of three sections of plate glass windows with aluminum trim.
The two front doors, one to the first floor storefront and the other to the second floor stairs are recessed three feet and appear to have been installed around Both sides of this structure adjoin structures to the north and south. The rear exterior is plywood with brown stucco. History: According to Assessor's records and records at the Northern Berkshire Registry of Deeds, the building was originally constructed as a house by Benjamin Remington around Benjamin Remington sold it to William Bradford in Mr. Bradford's heir, Jane Cady, took ownership in Cady constructed and owned the neighboring block situate at Eagle Street. Her executors sold both buildings in to Barnett Ark, who sub-divided the property and sold this particular building to Harry Abrams.
In the Century there has been a large turnover of businesses which included an A&P Market in the The Adams Co-operative Bank is the present owner of the building and plans to demolish the structure, together with 37 Eagle Street, in connection with the construction of a branch office building.
