Signifioanc* Descri tion; Court and Fifth Streets, Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio The I.O.O.F. Building is a rare surviving example in Portsmouth of a nearly intact Italianate structure. This sizable, three-story, brick building has a hipped roof. Seven windows punctuate the principal facade at the second and third stories. The windows are topped by alternating round and flat pediments, broken by a central, semi-circular element. The three doorways of the first floor alternate with windows. Doorways and windows are framed by stone columns, which appear to derive from the Tuscan column. The columns are topped by a plain entablature.
