Population over time
2 figuresD'Hanis fell from 847 to 785 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

The National Weather Service names D'Hanis in 14 storm reports between 2001 and 2007: 7 flash flood, 3 hail, 2 thunderstorm wind, 1 tornado. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| July 2007 | Flash Flood | D Hanis | $2,500,000 | Extremely heavy rainfall was reported from eastern Bandera County into northern Medina County. A general 3 to 5 inch rainfall was reported from persistent, nearly stationary thunderstorms in the northwest quarter of Medina County, with up to 12 inches inside the county just south of Tarpley. Highest totals were 17 inches just north of D'Hanis. More than 300 people were evacuated along Hondo Creek, Seco Creek and Verde Creek. Some were snatched from the roofs of their homes by helicopters. Nearly all roads in the north and east halves of the county were closed. Seco Creek overflowed in D'Hanis causing widespread damage to over 100 homes and businesses. Some buildings had up to 4 feet of water in them. Six homes were completely destroyed. Damage to roads and bridges was estimated at around $1.3 million. |
| April 2002 | Hail | D Hanis | $400,000 | The supercell moved eastward out of Uvalde County and into Medina County. It caused little significant weather in western Medina County, but as it moved into the eastern part of the county, it began to produce winds of 40 to 50 mph and hail as large as softballs. The wind and hail combination broke windows in vehicles, homes and businesses, and damaged roofs across much of southeast Medina County. The damage included several hundred automobiles. |
| May 2006 | Hail | D Hanis | $200,000 | The hail damaged roofs and vehicles and broke windows in homes and cars. |
| October 2001 | Tornado (F1) | D Hanis | $200,000 | The D'Hanis tornado was rated F1 on the Fujita Scale, slightly stronger than the Sabinal tornado. It formed near 930 pm CST, just to the northwest of D'Hanis, but was not spotted visually due to the darkness. Residents reported hearing the classic "roaring sound" just before the tornado struck. It caused widespread damage to the town area, destroying two buildings. Most of the damage was at F0 level, however, consisting of trees knocked down and roofs of homes, mobile homes and businesses damaged or destroyed. The tornado continued moving toward the southeast after leaving the town area and dissipated in open country. |
| October 2001 | Hail | D Hanis | $80,000 | Medina County Sheriff's Deputies reported heavy rain after the strong winds, followed by hail up to golfball-size, and then the winds began to diminish just before the tornado struck. |
| October 2001 | Thunderstorm Wind | D Hanis | $80,000 | Similar to the Sabinal storm, the damage at D'Hanis was caused by a combination of a tornado and downburst winds. Both in this case were stronger than at Sabinal. Again, the downburst struck first, causing widespread damage to tree limbs, destroying roofs of homes and businesses, knocking down trees and pushing over numerous power lines. The wind gusts were estimated at 80 miles an hour. This wind damage path was rectangular-shaped, stretching from 6 miles northwest of D'Hanis to 4 miles southeast of D'Hanis. The width of the area was approximately 2 miles. |
| April 2007 | Flash Flood | D Hanis | - | Slow-moving thunderstorms between Tarpley and Bandera in Bandera County and D'Hanis in Medina County produced general 1 to 2 inch totals. Highest amounts in Medina County were 4 inches north of D'Hanis near the Bandera County line. FM462 was closed north of D'Hanis due to flash flooding. |
| July 2007 | Flash Flood | D Hanis | - | Scattered thunderstorms produced general rain totals of 2 to 3 inches over Kinney, Uvalde, Zavala, Medina, and Frio Counties in the afternoon of July 3, with up to 8 inches between Hondo and Devine. Widespread severe flash flooding resulted from the rainfall, closing most roads in the southern part of Medina County. |
| July 2007 | Flood | D Hanis | - | Seco Creek at Ranch Rowe near D'Hanis crested at 32.4 ft on 07/21 at 0715cst, where flood stage is 15 ft. |
| March 2007 | Flash Flood | D Hanis | - | Between 2 and 3 inches of rain fell in the northwestern corner of Medina County, causing flash flooding that closed FM462 and FM1796. |
| September 2005 | Flash Flood | D Hanis | - | After showers and thunderstorms had dissipated near midnight, additional storms began to develop in the early morning hours across the central part of the county. This activity began to dissipate in the mid morning, after having produced between 1 and 2 inch rain totals across central Medina County. Maximum rainfall totals were 4 inches near D'Hanis, where soils were already saturated from the previous night's rainfall. FM1796 was closed again north of D'Hanis. |
| September 2005 | Flash Flood | D Hanis | - | Showers and thunderstorms formed in the early evening over western Medina and northern Frio Counties. They showed little movement through the evening, weakening and dissipating near midnight. The storms produced a general 1 inch rain over the west and central parts of Medina County, with the heaviest amounts near 3 inches just north of D'Hanis and near Yancey. FM1796 was closed north of D'Hanis. Flash flooding closed FM2200 and FM462 near Yancey. |
| June 2004 | Flash Flood | D Hanis | - | Between 3 and 4 inches of rain fell in the D'Hanis area during the mid afternoon. Flash flooding along Parker Creek east of D'Hanis and along Seco Creek west of D'Hanis cut US90 in both locations, isolating the town. Around 30 families were evacuated from the two creeks. Minor damage was reported to homes in the area. No injuries were indicated. |
| October 2001 | Thunderstorm Wind | D Hanis | - | A portion of the downburst that struck in and north of Sabinal was also found to be located in extreme western Medina County. The only damage was to vegetation. |
