Typical earth-fill structures, the dams on Marjorie and Duck lakes were constructed using similar specifications, including the stipulation for "carefully hand-laid rock faces." They are representative of a more aesthetic dam engineering philosophy which resulted from National Forest Service multi-use goals. Marjorie and Duck lakes are significant as the last reservoirs created on the upper Provo River drainage prior to Federal involvement in Utah's irrigation dam construction. Historical Information

In the Timpanogos Irrigation Company built medium-scale dams across the outlets of Marjorie and Duck lakes to impound water for irrigation. The Marjorie Lake Dam, a 940-foot structure with an obtuse V-shape, , more than doubled the surface area of the shallow lake. It was the longest of the two built that year by Timpanogos. The dam is composed of a clay center core with compacted earth over and hand-placed stone riprap on the sloped upstream and downstream faces. The outlet works consist of a 15" diameter reinforced concrete pipe with an inclined 15" wide Hardesty Model 115 cast iron headgate. A concrete spillway with a 2-foot freeboard on the north end of the dam controls lake overflow.

It is proposed that the dam be lowered, breached and reconfigured to return the lake to its natural level.
