The Copper Globe Mine is distinct from the surrounding San Rafael Mining District because it produced copper ore in the early twentieth century, rather than uranium, which dominated the mining district during the Cold War era. The Copper Globe Mine resources (miner s cabin, smelter cabin, and shed) represent copper mining facilities and construction methods at the turn of the twentieth century. Description: The Copper Globe Mine was in operation from about to although it never produced much ore of high quality. Bureau of Land Management mining records state that the mine was first located on October 10, and originally worked by Jesse and Conn Fugate from Ferron, Utah.

The Fugates built an on-site cabin, as well as a smelter so they could save money by not having to haul the low grade ore to a smelting facility. Numerous horizontal and vertical mine openings remain at the site, as well as a large pile of juniper logs. Putnam filed claim to the mine on September 4, and released it to Alan S. Pike on December 27, Annual affidavits of assessment work were filed with the BLM for the claim between and Following three years of inactivity, G. Robert and C. Robert Putnam filed location notices for the Copper Globe claim on December 6, and March 10, but no further proofs of labor are known.

According to the January 6, issue of the magazine Paint, Oil, and Drug review, Jesse Fugate apparently attempted other ventures in the COPPER GLOBE MINE HAER UT-97 (page 2) area beyond copper mining. He speculated that due to the large number of oil springs and the large amount of almost pure paraffin wax, thirty five miles South East of Ferron, that a good quality of petroleum oil could be secured by sinking wells.
