Storms near this place
3 since 2018Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Saddle in 3 storm reports between 2018 and 2023: 2 flood, 1 flash flood. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| April 2023 | Flood | Saddle | - | Water being released from Painted Rock Dam traveled down the Gila River, flooding several low water crossings between the dam and the Yuma County line. This led to the closures of Poco Dinero Road between Painted Rock Dam Road and Saddle Road as well as Rocky Point Road between Hyder Road and Painted Rock Dam Road. |
| May 2023 | Flood | Saddle | - | Continued releases from Painted Rock Dam led to prolonged elevated flows traveling down the Gila River. As a result of this, several downstream low water crossings between the dam and the Yuma County line remained impassable due to flooding. This led to the closures of Poco Dinero Road between Painted Rock Dam Road and Saddle Road as well as Rocky Point Road between Hyder Road and Painted Rock Dam Road continuing through the month of May. Any damage sustained to these roads due to the prolonged elevated flow in the Gila River is unknown. |
| August 2018 | Flash Flood | Saddle | - | Thunderstorms with very heavy rain developed over the lower deserts to the southwest of Phoenix and northwest of Gila Bend during the afternoon hours on August 16th. Some of the heavy rain fell over higher terrain areas such as the Eagle Tail Mountains; runoff from the heavy rain flowed into area washes such as the Fourth of July Wash, and created flash flooding. According to Maricopa County officials, at 1750MST flash flooding in the Fourth of July Wash flowed across Agua Caliente road making it impassable. County stream gauge data supported the flash flooding; the wash crested at 1.72 feet and that stage corresponded to 560 cubic feet per second of flow down the wash. Fortunately, no vehicles on the road were swept away as the wash flowed over the road. A Flash Flood Warning was in effect at the time and remained in effect through 1945MST. |
