Population over time

2 figures

Vicksburg fell from 597 to 418 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

November 2019Flash FloodVicksburg$40,000Widespread rain, moderate to heavy at times, developed across portions of La Paz County during the evening hours on November 28th; the heavy rain led to some flash flooding across central portions of the county which persisted into the early morning hours of the 29th. According to local law enforcement, at 2324MST flash flooding resulted in two vehicles becoming stuck in a wash along Vicksburg Road, about 2 miles to the southwest of Vicksburg. The cars were stranded with water up to the bottom of the car door windows. There were no reports of injuries as a result of the flooding however.
August 2020Thunderstorm WindVicksburg$30,000Isolated thunderstorms developed across portions of La Paz County during the early evening hours on August 30th; some of the storms generated gusty and damaging outflow winds. According to a local emergency manager, at 1945MST wind gusts estimated to be as high as 60 mph downed multiple power poles about 2 miles to the southwest of the town of Vicksburg. There were no injuries reported.
September 2019Flash FloodVicksburg$25,000Scattered monsoon thunderstorms developed across the central portions of La Paz county during the late evening hours on September 1st. Some of the stronger storms generated intense rainfall with peak rain rates in excess of one inch per hour. The heavy rain resulted in some flash flooding. According to a report from the public, at 2119MST two vehicles were stuck in a wash along Vicksburg Road near the Interstate 10 exit 45. The vehicles were reported stuck by the La Paz County Sheriff's Dispatch. There was also a report of a water rescue near the town of Vicksburg due to the flash flooding. No injuries were reported. A Flash Flood Warning was issued shortly before the report of the stranded vehicles; the warning was issued at 2109MST.
August 2012Flash FloodVicksburg$20,000Scattered thunderstorms developed across central La Paz county during the evening hours on August 21st, and they affected the area between Bouse and Vicksburg, including highway 72. Due to the very humid and unstable nature of the atmosphere, the storms were able to produce very heavy rain with rainfall rates well in excess of 2 inches per hour. According to local newspaper reports, at 540 pm washes were running along highway 72 southeast of Bouse, and debris had been washed across the highway. Some of the most significant flooding occurred along highway 72 between mileposts 37 and 40. The flooding prompted the issuance of a Flash Flood Warning for central La Paz County from 537 pm until 7 pm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported due to the flash flooding.
July 2017Thunderstorm WindVicksburg$10,000Thunderstorms developed over portions of La Paz County during the evening hours on July 8th and some of the stronger storms developed gusty outflow winds estimated to be as high as 60 mph. According to a trained weather spotter located just south of Vicksburg, outflow winds blew down and destroyed a car port roof at about 2100MST. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for the area at the time and it was issued at 2057MST.
November 2019Flash FloodVicksburg$2,000A powerful Pacific low pressure system developing over the desert southwest interacted with deep moisture to produce widespread rain across central portions of La Paz County during the early morning hours on November 29th. Isolated thunderstorms were embedded withing the areas of rain, locally enhancing rain totals. The heavy rain led to some flash flooding near the town of Vicksburg. According to the La Paz County Sheriff's office, at 0053MST flash flooding along state route 72 caused washes along the route to flow heavily. State route 72 then became impassable at mile posts 35, 43 and 45. There were no reports of accidents as a result of the flash flooding.
September 2018Flash FloodVicksburg$2,000Thunderstorms with locally heavy rain developed across the central portions of La Paz County during the afternoon hours on September 19th. Intense rain from the stronger storms led to an episode of flash flooding about 6 miles to the south of the town of Vicksburg Junction. According to a La Paz County official, at 1603MST Vicksburg Road was closed at Mile Post 1.5 due to flash flooding. The flooding occurred near Interstate 10; fortunately no accidents were reported on the interstate.
September 2023Flash FloodVicksburg-Numerous washes along Highway 60 between mile markers 31-50 were flooded. Timing was estimated from radar. No damage or injuries were reported.
August 2021Thunderstorm WindVicksburg-A CWOP station, E4845 Salome, near Vicksburg Junction measured a 63 mph wind gust. This is a known suspect weather station in terms of wind speed reliability, but the timing lines up with a strong outflow boundary on radar. A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect at the time which supports the gust magnitude. The station also measured up to 72 mph, but given the questionable station reliability this was not used.
July 2004Thunderstorm WindVicksburg-Two travel trailers overturned, roof ripped off a mobile home, 6 trees knocked over.
July 2004Thunderstorm WindVicksburg-Mobile home severely damaged by high winds. Roof of mobile home ripped off of structure, two smaller travel trailers flipped over, and a few trees were blown down.
