How the name was read

Each atlas was set in type by a different hand and scanned decades later, so the same establishment comes back spelled differently. Every reading below was produced by the recogniser from the sheets; none was corrected or invented. They are published so a search for any of them finds this page.

Named in the 1906 county history

The history of Pickaway County was published 13 years after the first of these atlases, and it names this establishment.

The first meetings of the new club were held at the Boggs Hotel, 224 South Court Street, until 1933 when the Boggs was razed to make way for the new Post Office. The meetings were held for a short time on the second floor of the Heffner & Heffner Building, 214 South Court Street; presently Gio's Pizza & Pub. Since then, meetings have been held at the American Hotel, the Elks Club, St. Phillips Episcopal Parish House, the L-K Restaurant, Pickaway Arms, back to L-K Restaurant, and finally to J.R. Hooks' Café, 115 Watt Street. The Club meets on Thursday at noon.

Provenance

Read by machine from the printed index of the Sanborn fire insurance atlases of Pickaway County, Ohio, held by the Library of Congress. Sanborn atlases published before 1930 are in the public domain. Only names that at least three of four independent readings agreed on are published, and no spelling has been corrected: what appears here is what the recogniser returned from the ink.
