Storms near this place
5 since 2012Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Excelsior in 5 storm reports between 2012 and 2024: 3 thunderstorm wind, 1 heavy rain, 1 flood. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| February 2014 | Thunderstorm Wind | Excelsior | $50,000 | An irrigation pivot was flipped along Isabella-Nashville Road to the southwest of the beginning of the tornado. More concentrated tree damage was located just east along Salem Church Road as well. Further wind damage was noted in the city of Tifton, mainly to the south and southeast of the tornado damage path. In addition to being slightly south of the trajectory of the tornado, the damage in this area was not continuous, more sporadic, and was in a consistent direction (blown in a general NE direction). Therefore, it was determined that this was likely due to NON-tornadic winds. The damage was most notable from near Old Omega Rd and I-75 east towards the vicinity of Beech Street south of downtown. The damage in these areas mostly consisted of tree limbs snapped off or trees uprooted. There was some metal roofing taken off a building along Beech street as well. A couple street signs were blown down. Winds were estimated at 65-75 mph. Monetary damage was estimated. |
| July 2012 | Thunderstorm Wind | Excelsior | $2,000 | Tift county 911 dispatch reported two trees down on Bradley Ln. Monetary damage was estimated. |
| March 2024 | Thunderstorm Wind | Excelsior | - | A tree was blown down along Ty-Ty Sparks Road. |
| March 2020 | Flood | Excelsior | - | Heck Dodson Road was flooded and closed. |
| March 2012 | Heavy Rain | Excelsior | - | A 24 hour total of 3.16 inches was reported at GA-TF-5. |
