Population over time

2 figures

Mound City fell from 588 to 526 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

May 2011FloodMound City$200,000Major flooding continued on the Ohio River from April. At the Grand Chain river gage, the flood crest of 62.20 feet on the evening of May 2 came within two feet of the record of 64.00 feet set in 1937. The activation of the New Madrid Floodway by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spared Pulaski County from an even higher crest. July 2019FloodMound City$30,000The Ohio River finally fell below flood stage after spending five months above flood stage, which is the longest duration on record at the Cairo river gage. Much of this time, the river was above flood stage due to backwater from the swollen Mississippi River. Although crops were never planted in many parts of the flood plain, the agricultural impacts were still significant. Flooding of low-lying woods, fields, and public parks finally ended by mid month.
February 2019FloodMound City$20,000Major flooding occurred on the Ohio River. There was extensive flooding of low-lying woods, fields, and parks. Through February, the impacts were very similar to the March, 1997 flood. Areas not protected by levees were inundated. Since the crop season was not underway, agricultural losses were insignificant. The Ohio River did not crest until March at the Cairo river gage.
June 2019FloodMound City$20,000Moderate flooding of the Ohio River continued through the month of June. Much of the flooding was due to backwater from the swollen Mississippi River. Considerable flooding of low-lying woods, fields, and parks persisted. Typically, this scale of flooding has a large impact on farming operations. The exact crest at Cairo was 56.51 feet on the 1st. Areas not protected by levees were inundated. Since the crop season was not underway, agricultural losses were insignificant. Total property damage estimates can be found in the February report.
