Washington C.H.went through a period of prosperity from the early l870's until the l890's.During that time a number of fine residences were built throughout -RELIGION _ECONOMICS 1860's apparently with the coming of the railroad.He opened a store on E.Main -1600-1699 -1500-1599 as a "splendid brick mansion on East Street .e..the design -MUSIC with wide architraves and keystones, the quoins, paired bracketed cornice, paneled historically. It is a fine well preserved example of a late nineteenth century Brothers Department Store in 1896 and remained in the family for 79 years. 1875 Washington Courthouse has identified other post Civil War residences in the community, but the Kelley House is unique for its unusual treatment of Italianate characteristics.
