City Hall Part I Historical Information A. Physical History 1. Date of erection: dedicated Jan. 1, 2. Architect: James Knoy Taylor 3. Builder: U.S. Government, Vermont marble used in construction. h. Original plans & contructlon: This two story structure (with basement) was first built for use as a U.S. Post Office. It was constructed of Vermont marble, with a classical entablature, Ionic columns, and arched windows with fan lights. 5. Alterations & additions: An addition was built onto the rear in the ea^ly and the interior was redesigned in The ren-/bvation architect was John H. Fisher. B. Historical Content The building was constructed in as a U.S. Post Office. At the time it was built it featured the first revolving door in the City of Pittsfield.

Much of the interior mahogany is still visible, although some of it was painted during the ren/bvation. Part II Architectural Information A. Description of Exterior The structure is two story Vermont marble with Ionic Columns. The doorway is located in the center front of the building with three windows or; each side. The second floof* has eight windows across the front. See Part I - Historical Information. 3. Description of Interior In the interior was renovated to its present condition. The interior contains a large amount of mahogany. (continued) C. Site The building is located on the southeast corner of Fenn and Allen Streets in Pittsfield and faces west onto Allen Street.
