June 2021Flash FloodMarfa1 killed, $20,000Heavy rain resulted in flash flooding in Marfa. Law enforcement officials announced the fatality of a gentleman who got his car swept away from flash flooding within the town of Marfa. The cost of damage is a very rough estimate.
September 2008Flash FloodPresidio$1,000,000On September 9, the levees near Redford, TX failed. This resulted in water covering the entire city of Redford. A high water rescue was reported near Alamito Creek.||Heavy rain made matters worse by September 14. Flash flooding was occurring in the city of Presidio and border patrol closed the International Bridge on September 16. The Mexican side of the bridge was covered in water and levels continue to rise. Water also topped the levees near Presidio Golf Course on the 16th and 17th. Border patrol reported that nearly 15 feet of water was located in the fields near the golf course, with 3 to 4 feet of water covering the golf course itself.||The International Boundary and Water Commission reported cracks in the levees near the golf course on September 17 and water was beginning to approach Presidio High School.

Small hail collected up to 6 inches deep in some locations around town. Slightly larger hail occurred approximately 30 minutes later, around 615 PM CDT, as the main core of the severe thunderstorm moved over the community.
June 2005HailMarfa$100,000Hen egg size hail mixed with smaller hailstones to produce damage to roofs and vehicles in Marfa. This hail occurred during the second of two severe storms to impact the Marfa vicinity during the late evening and early morning hours of the 2nd and 3rd.
June 2002Flash FloodPresidio$100,000The Texas Department of Transportation reported flash flooding resulting in high water in homes and businesses...as well as street flooding in the city of Presidio.
June 2005HailMarfa$50,000Large hail fell over Marfa again as a second severe storm affected the area shortly after midnight CST. Reports indicated that hail up to the size of half-dollars persisted for nearly twenty-five minutes. The long duration of one and a half inch diameter hail and occasionally larger stones, resulted in damage to numerous roofs and vehicles.
June 2005HailMarfa$25,000The first of two hail storms to affect the Marfa area struck at 23:00 CST. Large hail ranging in size from ping pong balls to golfballs fell along U.S. Highway 67 near the city. This initial storm is believed to be responsible for minor roof damage, however, a more significant hail storm impacted Marfa just an hour later and likely produced a majority of the damage.
May 2012HailShafter$20,000A severe thunderstorm developed in Presidio County and produced golfball sized hail in Shafter. The hail resulted in five pickup truck windshields being destroyed and several homes with broken windows. The cost of the damage is a very rough estimate.

July 1999Flash FloodPaisano$10,000Thunderstorms in the Paisano Pass area dumped heavy rains at a Baptist Summer Camp, where usually dry draws became running torrents and even came out of their banks to flood the campground. Over 1200 people were in the camp at the time of the event. Eight cabins were flooded by the high water and numerous cars were stranded in mud. Rainfall measured at the camp was 2.8 inches. The running water pushed debris into U.S. Highway 67/90 near the camp.

May 2004LightningPresidio$5,000Lightning struck an insulator on a power pole near Presidio in the southern part of Presidio County. Damage caused by the lightning strike resulted in an eleven-hour power outage in the cities of Presidio, Shafter, and Redford. Electrical power was finally restored to area residents during the mid morning of Sunday the 16th.

September 2008FloodPresidio Big Bend Ar-Reports from the Texas Department of Transportation indicated that a substantial portion of State Route 170 was closed due to high water, southeast of Presidio, TX to near Lajitas, TX. The flooding was the result of water releases from the Luis Leon Reservoir in northern Mexico.||This portion of Route 170 remained closed for the entire duration of the event. In addition, the high water levels resulted in back flow up various tributaries to the Rio Grande River. City officials reported flooding in the Loma Peloma and Redford areas. Homes, 5 miles east of Presidio, were also threatened by the flood waters.||Low lying portions of Presidio, TX were under a mandatory evacuation for several days, which affected nearly 500 people.
